WHAT IS AN INTERNIST?

DESCRIPTION

The practice of internal medicine in its simplest definition is the primary medical care of adults, with adults being defined as any male or female 18 years old and older. Internal medicine physicians (internists) care for their patients across the spectrum from health to complex illness with long term and comprehensive medical management. Internists conduct annual physicals and treat chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and high cholesterol, just to name a few. They also treat acute illnesses such as acute sinusitis, urinary tract infections, and acute rash, along with many others.
