27 Apr How Can I Wash My Young Child’s Hands?
When allergy and flu season are in full swing (and especially now) washing your young child’s hands is one of the most important things you can be doing. But how do you wash a child’s hands when they can’t or aren’t tall enough to stand at a sink? We’ve put together a few tips on how to do this.
Wash Hands in the Easiest Way Possible for You and Your Child
This may be holding them over the sink and washing hands one-by-one or sitting them next to the sink on the counter. It may also be easier, and you may prefer, to just use a wet wipe to clean their hands if they are an exceptionally squirmy baby.
Think About What They Are Touching
Preventing spread of germs and disease to your child is more than just making sure their hands are clean. Germs can live on different surfaces for a significant amount of time, so be aware of that when you have a young child in the house. Since younger children, especially babies, seem to always find a way to put things in their mouths, make sure that you are cleaning the countertops and your child’s toys as often as their hands (if not more).
Do Your Best!
Most of the time, age is what determines what is really getting dirty. For example, adults tend to wash their hands after going to the bathroom, before eating, etc., so it makes sense that you would want to do this for your child too. And don’t forget, children tend to mimic their parents when they are growing up, so showing that kind of positive behavior could be beneficial in the long run.
