28 Sep Your Socially Distant Halloween Safety Guide
3 min. readThis year, Halloween is going to look a little different for kids. While there are plenty of health and safety guidelines in place right now to help keep kids safe, it doesn’t mean that Halloween is completely ruined for kids who want to have fun on this most magical of holidays. It is important for kids and parents alike to stay socially distant and safe right now, even during quarantine.
We understand that it can be really difficult to explain to kids while they cannot get out and enjoy Halloween as normal—but there are a few tips to consider that can help you stay safe and socially distant while still having some fun.
Make Your Yard Even More Fun
Even if you normally really like to decorate your yard and house for Halloween, there is no better time than the present to really go over-the-top. Kids love seeing huge yard displays for Halloween so you cannot only treat yourself but you can treat other kids in the neighborhood to a fun display as well.
Coordinate a Zoom Halloween Call
Get together with friends and family over Zoom and have everyone bring their biggest and best Halloween costumes to show off their favorite spooky and scary looks.
Do a Fashion Show of Old Costumes
Just because your kids can’t go to a Halloween party this year—it doesn’t mean you can’t make your own type of fashion show. Get out all of your kids’ old favorite costumes and have them parade around in some of their favorites from years’ past. It will be a fun trip down memory lane!
Coordinate a Halloween Costume Parade
If you and the other kids feel safe doing so, consider doing a socially-distant, mask-friendly Halloween parade through your neighborhood. Everyone can easily stay six feet apart and it’s a great alternative to trick-or-treating where kids can show off their costumes but don’t need to interact with other people face-to-face.
Have a Halloween Movie Marathon
Plan a night of safe and socially distant movie fun at home. Put on your favorite scary and Halloween-themed movies and stay up late one night watching them all. It is a great way for you to get in the mood for some Halloween fun.
Practice Safe Trick-Or-Treating
If your family chooses to go trick-or-treating or participate in any kind of Halloween-related event outside of the home, don’t forget to follow CDC guidelines of maintaining social distancing and wearing masks. Please remember that cloth or paper medical-grade masks are still the safest for children, and masks that are part of the costume (made of plastic) are not considered COVID-safe.
Of course, this Halloween is going to be difficult for parents and for kids. However, the more positive you can be and the more creative you can be to help you kids find some fun during this time of year, while staying safe, the better off everyone will be. f you have questions about how you can stay safe and socially distant this Halloween or more tips on keeping your kids healthy during these unprecedented times with COVID-19, make sure to contact the experts here at Continuum Pediatrics.
