Dr. Mai Sharaf is a Board Certified Internal Medicine Physician with the American Board of Internal Medicine and is an active Fellow in the American College of Physicians.

As an Internist, Dr. Sharaf provides primary health care for all patients 18 years and older. She treats acute and chronic diagnoses, but also emphasizes the need for preventative regular health care. She believes that “being proactive in one’s health is better than being reactive.” One should try to prevent disease instead of chasing it. Subsequently, Dr. Sharaf takes a team-driven approach to patient care, meaning she innately believes a doctor must listen to their patients and recognize their specific concerns and beliefs. Only in that manner can you construct a successful health plan individualized to each patient.

Dr. Sharaf was born and raised in Arkansas where she earned a Magna Cum Laude, Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville and a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock. She then completed her Internal Medicine internship and residency with Washington University at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.

Since finishing her training, Dr. Sharaf has had a diverse career. From 2000–2001, she served as a Clinical Instructor for the Emergency Medicine Division at Washington University in St. Louis where she instructed medical students and residents.

In 2001, Dr. Sharaf took a position as the Emergency Room Medical Director for Keller Army Community Hospital at the U.S. Military Academy, West Point, New York, providing care to West Point cadets, active duty, and local retirees.

In 2005, she moved to Texas and served as an Assistant Professor for a year in the Division of General Internal Medicine with the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth. In this role, she mentored and trained Internal Medicine interns and residents and also provided medical care to the underserved population of Tarrant County.

In 2006, Dr. Sharaf entered into private medical practice in Colleyville for eight years providing comprehensive medical care to patients who resided throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex.

Dr. Sharaf then entered into clinical research in 2014 with Texas Digestive Disease Consultants. She was involved in eligible patient identification for several Gastroenterology clinical trials which were introducing new pharmaceutical treatments for Crohn’s disease and Ulcerative Colitis.

In 2016, Dr. Sharaf opened Continuum Internal Medicine where she looks forward to meeting you as a new patient or seeing a returning familiar face and developing a team driven plan in treating, maintaining and managing your health needs.

Dr. Sharaf is married and resides with her husband in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends, and traveling.
